Prepping Walls With Exterior Insulation

Proper Preparation:

If exterior rigid board insulation is being used to provide the air barrier, it would have been installed by another party at an earlier stage of construction. When you get onsite, it is important to verify that it has been installed on all exterior walls, and over any hidden framing members such as corners.

Seal any penetrations with expanding foam before you insulate the wall cavity. If using sealants around rigid board insulation, make sure it is safe to use with rigid board, as some types of sealants will react when in contact with it and deteriorate it.
