Learn how to set measurable goals
that will lead you to your vision and give those goals a reasonable
amount of time to be completed. Once again it is important to be as
specific as possible and to meet your deadlines. For instance,
years before I sold a copy of this book my goal was always to turn
my life experiences and values into some sort of book. I
didn't know how I was going to write it, when I was going to
write it or even what I was going to write about. I just knew that,
somehow, someway, in some distant time I wanted to document
my
thoughts. It wasn't until I set an actual first task
(brainstorming chapter ideas) and I created a concrete date
(January 15 2014) that I got started. Make sure you give yourself a
reasonable amount of time to meet your measurable goal and follow
through.
I use to be a supervisor for a
nonprofit organization in the Bronx, and my program manager would
always send me tasks that needed to be completed with a swift
approaching deadline. I honestly hated it. I felt as if she
probably had this information in enough time to give me more of a
heads up. Every time I completed a task though, I realized that the
actual deadline and the date I was given never matched up. Somehow
she knew that, when working under pressure, I put forth the effort
to perform whatever task was at hand and I would focus intently on
that task. This is the same way you should approach your goals.
Create your own deadlines and hold yourself accountable. Make sure
you are reasonably capable of completing the tasks that you are
giving yourself in the time frame you have decided upon and always
follow through. Keep a 'to do list' for daily tasks that will lead
up to your goals. A daily 'to do list'gives your 'when' a start
date of today. Make it a priority to complete items on your list
and you will be ahead of the game.
