#Got2Network

Networking is a task that is dreaded by introverts and welcomed by extraverts. I, myself, am not a fan of the random passing of business cards, the tone of phony conversations where everyone sensationalizes their jobs while sipping on watered down cocktails. Yup, you guessed it, I am an introvert. Although I can pretty much get along with any and everyone, and can also display enough charisma to make the vital connections necessary, I still dread the process. With that being said I still recognize the importance of networking. When dealing with the idea of interdependence (as they say in the political world) shaking hands and kissing babies is vital. The more people you meet the more connections you develop.

Today networking takes place in several different forms. The advent of social networking has been the key to helping social introverts like myself draw even in the playing field of networking. Through social network outlets you can almost instantly find someone somewhere who will meet a need of your business or vision. These connections, if maintained properly, can become a vital part of your vision down the line. The best way to maintain a healthy networking partner is to remember to give something in return. Proper networking should always be a give and take relationship. If you are always looking for favors without extending your hand in return or providing financial compensation, you will exhaust your resources quickly.

Even if you may not have a direct way of helping your networking partner, be able to draw from a pool of contacts and connections that might be useful to your networking counterpart. Remember, networking should be an ongoing process. Don't only contact people when you need them. Try to maintain healthy relationships so that, when you do need to ask for their help, it's coming from a point of a personal relationship. Keep your network tight and be willing to sacrifice time and money for the sake of doing good business. Your name and reputation will carry you a long way in the realm of networking.
