The stud space can be insulated using a variety of different insulation types, including batt (i.e., mineral wool or fibreglass) or blown-in fibrous insulation (i.e., fibreglass or mineral wool in dense-packed or denseblown applications).
With fibrous fill insulations, higher density blown products with integral binders can be used to prevent settlement within the deep wall cavity.
A cost-effective combination of spray foam and fibrous fill could also be considered to improve airtightness and also reduce convective looping within the insulation between the studs. The service wall stud space can either be insulated to increase the assembly R-value, or it can be left empty.
