Review and establish what resources, skills, knowledge and how
many pair of hands you need to deliver your objectives. Naturally
you might not be able to have everyone that you want so creative
solutions are important.
- Permanent employees - must be flexible, creative, innovation
and team players. Excellent 'marketing' cannot be achieved without
the rest of the business so a team player is important.
- Part time employees, freelancers, contractors and interims -
all have their place in the organization especially when
specialized projects are required.
- Project teams - They will be many and varied. The first team
you have is the marketing team but just about every aspect of
marketing will require employees for other parts of the business to
be involved. Be prepared to be a full time project manager!
- Out-sourced services - you may have one or many agencies that
provide you with specific services. Annual retainers are becoming
out-dated as businesses would rather secure services when they need
them. But retainers have there place when managed correctly. The
retained agency will (should) know the company just as well as you
do, so they can be up and running on work very quickly. This is
where you need to become a very good account manager!
