Remember - what gets measured gets done. But the question for
you is: 'are you tracking the right performance indicators in your
department?' Don't track lots of things just the important ones to
give you a critical view of your departments' performance at a
glance, so that's less than one page.
When a KPI moves outside the tolerance that you have set, then you
can start to drill down to see exactly what is happening. Once you
know what is impacting the performance you can then decide how to
act. You'll should also be interested in KPIs from other
departments and for the business as a whole.
Many companies adopt the Balanced Business Scorecard (BBSC)
approach to help them monitor those all important metrics.
