The Key Challenge

Right now, society is making a bunch of big assumptions about the future powers (and even superpowers) of computation. And very few people are challenging them. We accept these assumptions as truth.

But what if these assumptions are simply wrong?

And if these assumptions are wrong, and if we knew they were wrong, how would that change our plans to use computation to make the world a better place?

The Key Challenge we see is to question these assumptions -- to rethink the role of computers & computing in modern society, to make sure that computing power serves as a force that supports the evolution of a better life for everyone. And recognizes a vital role for human intelligence.

As we question today's dominant assumptions about computing power, and specifically about its power to replace humans, we think we are also forced to recognize that, at root, we need to shift -- and lift -- our basic assumptions about the nature of humanity.
