By the end of the in-person portion of basecamp:London, we hope participants will express a strong interest and make a commitment to engage in joint efforts to:
- Help come up with new social theories for the future, which question the dominant scientific perspectives on humanity, relative to computation.
- Help the identification, implementation and scaling up of new technologies and businesses that do not rely on today's dominant assumptions about human thinking's relationship to machine thinking.
- Nurture a world-wide movement seeking to share a new perspective on humanity's relationship with technology, from the individual level, to the level of a global, technologically competent society.
What's being asked here is nothing less than a shift in perspective on the nature of humanity. But given that humanity today is mired in decades-old, pseudoscientific ideas about itself, and given that these ideas are now codified into the world's algorithmic infrastructure, a deep shift is necessary if we are to truly solve problems by "thinking outside the box". (In this case, the box has the shape of a distributed server farm in the cloud.)
