• R-values per inch are determined in the laboratory;
• Total R-value is determined by dividing the thickness of the material by the thermal conductivity of the material specimen
• Effective R-value is determined by combining the R-values of adjacent areas of differing thermal resistance (Note: Canadian Wood Council has a calculator!!)
