Past Experiences

We use WordPress for FitSmallBusiness.com and for paying clients including thebronxdentalcenter.com and midtowndentalspecialists.com. Wordpress is definitely a good option, however, WordPress gets fairly complicated once you start customizing a site beyond a limited set of options.

I have also used Godaddy's website builder in the past but, in my experience the basic functionality provided does not let one build a professional looking business site. I have not used Weebly or Wix in the past but, I have heard that they provide a good compromise between simplicity to use and ability to create a customized, professional website.

Normally, I would just go with WordPress because of familiarity. There are some nice wordpress templates out there for real estate sites. You can see examples here.

Since I want to hand-off the site to my father to manage however, I wanted to try a solution more suited to his skills. I checked out Weebly and they have a nice templates that I think will fit the bill for him and most other small business owners who want to manage things themselves. The Weebly site should be easier to maintain and update than even a wordpress theme. As Weebly is very affordable, I am going to try them out for this site. If I can't do everything I need to with them, I will come back and use wordpress.

If you would like to follow along as I setup my father's site using Weebly, you can register for a free account here.

Now that I have chosen the platform, it's time to decide what content I want on the site and where I want to put it.
