2.4.5 Apply the procedures regarding the modelling of a wall
(H2K, Sect 7.4)
Wall Label:
Identifying label to the wall (e.g. "Brick", "Garage wall", etc.) when there are multiple storeys, a wall has differing characteristics, or a wall section is buffered, or leave at the default.
Wall Type:
describe the wall's construction which will be used to calculate the thermal resistance of the assembly. Select a User-defined or Favourite Code, or use the Code Selector.
When using the Code Selector for modelling, make selections from all applicable drop downs to define the house component.
Use Insulation Layer 1 to model framing cavity insulation and Insulation Layer 2 to model a continuous layer of insulation.
Lintel Type:
Define the Lintel Type by selecting a User-defined or Favourite Code, N/A or use the Code Selector.
It is not necessary to specify the Lintel Type if there are no windows or doors in the wall component.
If the actual construction is not known, in the Code Selector select Lintel Type > Double, Material > Wood, Insulation > None (or internal code label 100).
Corners and Intersections:
If unknown, use HOT2000 defaults.
R-value:
This field will be automatically populated based on the way the code is defined
Height:
Enter the interior vertical height of the wall from the floor to the ceiling.
Perimeter:
Enter the interior length of the wall.
When entering multiple walls of identical construction as one entry, use the sum of the individual wall interior lengths.
If one wall component is used for the entire house, enter the interior exposed wall perimeter of the entire house.
Area:
The Area field is calculated by HOT2000 based on the wall Height and Perimeter entered.
Adjacent to Enclosed Unconditioned Space:
Check mark this box if the wall is buffered from the exterior (e.g. garage, porch). HOT2000 will add RSI 0.16 (R-0.9) to walls and their sub-components that are identified as being buffered.
When this box is check marked any windows, doors and floor headers associated with that wall section will automatically have their boxes check marked too.
For row houses, input only the components exposed to the exterior by inputting their interior dimensions.
Do not include the length of common walls and common floor headers.
