Typically, residential plumbing consists of 1½ inch pipes for draining purposes but the amount of dirt and hair we eliminate makes this look not ideal. There is a lot of waste which goes down that drain and you need to make sure that the drain is large enough not to get clogged. So, what to do? Upgrade to a slightly bigger drain, say 2-inch one. The cost difference is negligible and you get around 25% more wider drain to carry your gunk easily. And it will have a less chance of getting clogged or no chance at all unless you're washing your hair after a month or showering on a quarterly basis.
