OHBA & Tarion Board

2020 Director Nomination Package - OHBA candidates.docx 70 KB

In December the government made a series of announcements regarding Tarion Warranty Corporation.

Among them was that Tarion would continue to be the sole government-administrator of the surety program and confirmed that the new Home Construction Regulatory Authority (HRCA) would become the new builder regulator in November 2020.

What does this mean?

Tarion will become a warranty-focused organization.

In March 2020, Tarion will move to a Board of 12 in total from the current 16. It will be 4 BUILDERS + 4 GOVERNMENT APPOINTEES + 4 PUBLIC APPLICTION APPOINTEES.

OHBA has the responsibility to nominate the 4 Builder members to the formal Tarion committee to consider. At this point, 2 existing builder appointees will remain - meaning OHBA needs to nominate a minimum of 2 builders to serve on this new Tarion Board.

Attached is the Tarion Board application document that outlines Board responsibilities, time commitment and the necessary personal disclosure information to be considered.

I am asking Board members who are interested and EO's who may know members interested to review the document and please recommend potential candidates or have them contact me for more information.

OHBA Tarion Nominations Committee includes Past President Rick Martins, President Bob Schickedanz, HHHBA Past President Nick Carnicelli, and OHBA Executive Committee member Christina Giannone.

Nominations that proceed to the Tarion nominations committee need to be confirmed at the January 30th meeting of the OHBA Board.

Thank you.
