Every theme has a certain number of colors that can be customized. For New Standard, clicking on the "Style - Colors" section will reveal more than fifty settings related to color. This theme offers a massive level of customization.
You will notice the numbers with the # symbol beside them. These are codes used in web page design to define particular colors. These color codes are called hexadecimal values. But fortunately, you don't need to worry about that because if you click on the color box beside the code, a simple to use color picker will appear. Use your mouse to indicate the color you would like with the color palette, as per the screenshot above. You can see the impact of the color change I made in the screenshot from my store below.
It might take a little bit of time to understand what exactly each setting is - the theme documentation is unlikely to explain all the settings or words. If all else fails, you can change a color to something very visible (a bright red for example) and see how it impacts your store.
Your theme has been designed by a professional designer and this includes the choice of colors. It's probably better to change sparingly the colors rather than change lots of colors. Though if you have a good sense of color, you may be able to do something a bit more radical.
COLOURlovers
is an excellent site specialized in color palettes. It has more
than two million palettes and a huge community that post ratings
and comments. You can find the hexadecimal (or hex) value for each
color on the site. This value can simply be copied and pasted into
the text field with the # in it.
Most themes offer some choice of what fonts to use in your store. Some themes are compatible with the various web fonts services which offer hundreds of different fonts. New Standard provides the option to customize five different text elements of your storefront. For each text element ("Logo Font", "Main Menu Font", "Text Font", etc.) you can choose a font from a dropdown selection.
Most themes offer the possibility of having a dropdown store
navigation. With this navigation, the visitor can get directly to
many important pages in the store.
We will look at how to put this in place later on. In many themes
you can also control the font and the colors for your navigation.
In New Standard, you can do this in the "Style - Fonts" and "Style
- Colors" sections.
