When on the run, don't pass up anything with calories. There are no longer empty calories. But I'm betting that by the time that you make it to the Quickie Mart the shelves will be bare of even the nastiest junk food. Never fear, there's lots of places to look for compact survival fashions.
Beef jerky or jerky of any kind has long been an excellent way to carry food. Today you can find it packaged in plastic almost anywhere.
But there's a difference between jerky and "meat sticks." Jerky is dried and often flavored meat. No one knows what meat sticks are really made of (I know that the labels claim. I'm not so certain). If you're in a pinch go ahead and eat the meat sticks, but always take jerky over that junk.
Because jerky is compact and well preserved, load up on jerky over almost any other type of food. It's light, easy to carry, and is loaded with protein and fat, just what you need to keep you moving.
