There are several types of bonds:
Corporate bonds are issued by companies and offer higher interest rates.
Municipal bonds are issued by states and
municipalities. Municipal bonds can offer tax-free income from
interest.
U.S. Treasury bonds (more than 10 years to
maturity), notes (1-10 years maturity) and
bills (less than one year to maturity) are
collectively referred to as simply "Treasuries." These bonds
provide you with interest. The longer the time period invested, the
higher the interest rate.
Savings Bonds (no interest, purchase at less than
face value and wait until mature)
