Set Your Goals

Once you have refreshed your vision, you need to define clear goals. Goals need to be measurable, realistic and achievable - while staying high enough to be challenging. First define goals for your business, then define goals for your marketing efforts accordingly.

Need to increase your revenue stream? Set a 10% increase in MRR* in the next 3 months. For marketing, set an increase of your star product online sales by 30% in the same period.

The key to establishing achievable marketing targets would be to spend time evaluating your present position. Many startups set high, unattainable goals and end up disappointed.

Take some time to actually understand your growth levels to date. If you run a popular website and traffic has grown by 10% for the past few months, you are aware that a 10% month-over-month increase in blog traffic is a challenging yet attainable goal.

The one most important consideration to keep in mind about marketing aims is to remain concentrated. Select 1-2 core targets that affect the bottom line and 5 supporting goals. This way you will not divert from what's most important.
