Nowadays, it seems like everyone has a blog. Some blog about their personal interests and experiences, like I do at my blog, others blog from their business to appeal to their audience, and some people just blog about a little bit of everything. There's no right or wrong way.
So, how can you benefit from these "micro-brands" floating around on the internet?
Give them something they want.
This could be guest posting about a topic that you know well, relates to your business and can benefit the blog.
Example: Maybe you sell custom dog collars and you have a dog which you recused from a shelter. Look for a blog, or charitable organization, that promotes rescuing dogs and regularly posts about happy families taking in a dog with nowhere to go. You can share your story (and pictures) of how and why you did this, how it was the greatest decision you ever made and how much fun you and your dog have. Then you can (briefly) tie in the fact that you now make custom made dog dollars to keep your dog looking good, and link them to your store.
Now, you have just displayed your heartfelt story, provided great content for the blog, and established a trust between you and the audience. Next time those readers need a dog collar, do you think they're going to order from a faceless pet corporation, or support you and your furry friend?
I'm gonna go with the latter…
How about you then take it to the next level?
Offer the blog that you just posted on a few free collars for their pups, and you can now possibly even earn another guest posting opportunity in the future. Also, send their readers a 10% discount code.
You have now given everyone something nice, and you'll be much more likely to sell your dog collars to this audience since you established a connection and incentivized them to purchase a collar for their dog.
Who knows, maybe you could have even save a dog's life. Win-win all around.
