Defining The Test Scope

Before you begin any type of performance testing, it's critical to ensure that you understand and have fully thought out all aspects of the project scope.

This includes making sure you've covered the following items with all stakeholders:

  1. Defining the scenario and putting it into words and a flowchart
  2. Defining the primary goals
  3. Determining the number of daily users using the application
  4. Knowing the application spike hours
  5. Defining and understanding your Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

Investing time on this will save you time and effort later. It will also improve your analysis of the final results as you'll have a much better understanding of the key objectives for the test.

We'll break down each of these critical points in the following pages.
