Set Goals

Let me be frank, your marketing plan will be a massive failure if you don't set goals. The failure will be due to the fact that you won't even know it has failed. Without goals you have no metric to measure success by.

There are two major reasons that many businesses don't set goals.

  1. Business owners see an unmet goal as a failure.
  2. Businesses don't know how to set realistic goals.

Your goals should be high-level achievement you want to accomplish through your marketing efforts. Let's use Gizmo Widget Co. as an example:

In 2015 Gizmo Widget Co. will increase Widget wholesales by 15% and consumer sales by 18% through online marketing and direct marketing campaigns.

You can also set ROI (return on investment) goals for your marketing efforts.

Example: Gizmo Widget Co. will achieve an ROI of 33%.

Always Set a Goal

Whatever your goals are, always remember that they should be realistic - setting unrealistic goals will only result in disappointment.

Also, keep in mind that failing to meet a goal does not make your business a failure. Failure is only final if you don't work to improve in the future. Missing a goal shows you where improvements need to be made and how you can more strategically run your business and marketing efforts.
