Another Way: Games and Activities for the Guests

If you want ways to keep your guests occupied and involved during the waiting period and reception, here are some ideas for passing the time:

  • Coloring! You don't have to be a kid to enjoy coloring pages. A great way to keep this activity with the theme of the wedding is to create coloring pages from pictures of you and your honey. Upload your picture via Crayola.com or Scrapcoloring.com and turn it into a coloring page for free.
  • Reception Bingo. You can generate a bingo card on bingo.saksena.net/bingo for free. If you want more variety for each guest, come up with 100 things for the bingo cards, or - if you trust them - you can provide blank cards for them to fill in on their own. There can be things like:
    • A lady wearing purple.
    • The bride and groom kiss.
    • The best man says the words "I have a story to share" in his toast
    • The bride dances with her dad

Some can be easy, and some can be harder. If you want to give prizes out to the first five people (for example), feel free! It can be something simple like candy. But you don't have to give out prizes if you don't want to.

Tip: Don't take on tasks like this if it will create more stress than it will help.

  • Lawn games. If the reception is outside, than you have the option of offering lawn games, such as Bocce Ball, Croquet, Ladder Golf, Corn hole, Horse shoes, Giant Jenga, Frisbee Golf, Badminton, Ring Toss, Kubb, or any others you can think of.
  • Photo scavenger hunt. Create a print-out list of things people can photograph.

  • Board games. Have a table in the reception hall or just outside it topped with all sorts of board games like Candy Land and Yatzee. Have a wide variety so kids of all ages have something to play.

Tip: Party games can get loud and rowdy. You may want to avoid those.
