What Some People Do Now

The bridal party used to have all pictures taken after the ceremony, but these days a large amount of wedding parties take all the pictures before. And with good reason, too. The advantage is that there is little wait in-between the ceremony and reception for the guests and you can take as much time as you want on pictures.

What may not make this idea work is that if you don't want the "Big Reveal" to happen until the ceremony, you can only take so many pictures without the groom seeing the bride. And depending on how much time you need for pictures, you may have to get ready super early. If you're doing a morning wedding, that would stink. If you like tradition or need to take pictures after the ceremony and don't think the above option is your route, there are a few more possibilities that will still save time.

  • You have the option to take some of your pictures ahead of time even if you don't want the Big Reveal until the ceremony. Capture the bride and bridesmaids' moments separate from the groom and groomsmen. That will cut some time from pictures later.
  • Pick an experienced photographer who knows exactly what he wants to capture and can move the party efficiently. Or at the very least, no matter the experience of the photographer, express what you need from him on your wedding day.

A good photographer will do his best to accommodate you (within reason, of course!).
