Staying Organized In The Chaos Of College

Tips from Kaitlin Gladney, Senior/Student at Duke University.

Azendoo for students

I'm a pretty busy kid. On top of being a full-time student, I am president of my university's chapter of a mental health awareness nonprofit, captain of the taekwondo team, and manager of a band. I also maintain a blog and do freelance writing and photography. It's all fun, but it can be a lot to keep track of.

Azendoo provides the efficiency and organization I need to keep everything running smoothly. Before, I had post-its, phone notes, scribbled-upon napkins, etc. scattered everywhere, so I was psyched to discover a platform that centralizes all my tasks and their related information. Plus, I can access it online or via the app on my phone, so my workspaces are always accessible.

Azendoo helps me monitor all my responsibilities, ensuring that I don't accidentally let something important slip through the cracks. I have a personal workspace, in which I keep track of my class assignments and extracurricular tasks (each class and extracurricular with its own Subject tag) along with miscellaneous to-do's. I have another for the band I manage, and one for career/job search (I'm a college senior already?). I've also got a workspace running for group projects, which abound in university.

I have a single workspace for these group projects, and then assign a different subject name to each project so that I can easily find all relevant materials. Azendoo's ability to flexibly organize materials in the manner that is best for each individual user is extremely helpful - depending on my needs, I can sort tasks by all my tasks in one list, by workspace, or by subject.

Also useful is Azendoo's integration with Google Drive, Dropbox, Box, and Evernote. I'm mostly an Evernote/Google Drive user myself, but I have friends who prefer other platforms. Azendoo is great because we can use it as a central hub and attach documents to tasks without forcing anyone to use a storage system they don't like.

One of my favorite things about Azendoo is the way that it eliminates endless, hard-to-track email threads. Rather than ending up with three or four threads going at the same time, the message function allows us to converse right on the item in question and easily review previous dialogue.

Being able to assign and follow tasks on Azendoo also aids our teamwork, increasing our efficiency and preventing us from wasting time trying to figure out if anyone completed a certain part of a project, or searching for old conversations and documents. Although frequently visited by college students, social media sites like Facebook don't allow for such task management. Moreover, they possess myriad distractions ("It's been about thirty seconds, maybe I should check my news feed again…"), whereas the clean, professional setup of Azendoo inherently lends itself to productivity. Besides, who doesn't love the feeling of checking a task off their to-do list?

I love Azendoo in the capacity I use it, and I wish that I were able to use it more. Looking back on my years in university, I think it would have been extremely useful to have a project management platform such as Azendoo offered on a university-wide level so that students had and were aware of a place where they could easily collaborate on projects - academic, extracurricular, and personal alike - with all the tools they need immediately present, rather than resorting to less efficient methods like bouncing between email, cloud storage, and Facebook messaging to manage a single project.

When it comes to efficiency, organization, and collaboration, project management platforms like Azendoo can't be beat.
