As help can be far away, skiers on unmarked trails should be equipped with an Avalanche Radio Transmitter (ART). An ART sends and receives radio signals simultaneously. Should an accident occur, an ART can help the members of the group finding any people buried faster. Fifty percent of all skiers trapped in avalanches are still alive after 30 minutes. After two hours only 20 percent remain alive. Hence, quick help is crucial to survival.
In addition most ski resorts today have well-developed cell phone nets. It is recommended that a group take a cell phone with them.
