Very steep slopes with a gradient of over 45 degree are seldom an avalanche risk because the snow does not manage to tick to these slopes. Most of the snow will slide down the moment it has fallen. Only a few black trails have a gradient of over 45° degrees. The greatest danger of avalanches is found on the slopes with a gradient of between 20°to 45°. A slope with a gradient of less than 20° is unlikely to pose a danger. A slope with a gradient of 20° is roughly equal to a difficult red scope in Europe.
