Code of Conduct

Signing the Code of Conduct is part of the HPCN registration process. It is copied here for reference.

Companies offering home performance services as members of the Home Performance Contractor Network commit to:

Ethical Business Practices

  • Honesty and good value as guiding policies
  • Meeting all required regulations when dealing with hazardous materials and ensuring the safety of workers and home occupants
  • Taking out permits for all projects for which permits are required and/or confirming that the homeowner has done so

Fair Pricing & Organized Documentation

  • Providing a contract/quote for all products and/or services provided which includes
    • a clearly defined scope of work and change orders (as applicable);
    • transparent, fair market pricing, providing the customer the benefit of any rebates, discounts, or incentives intended for them; and
    • details of all applicable labour warranties.
  • Providing dated invoices that clearly state what was installed and where
  • Providing receipts for all payments and collecting and remitting all applicable taxes

Excellent Customer Service

  • Paramount responsibility to their customer or the home occupant
  • Responding to customer communications in a timely manner
  • Resolving customer concerns in a timely manner
  • Dealing fairly with customers, employees, subcontractors, program administrators and suppliers

Commitment to Home Performance

  • All work will be performed by an HPCN-qualified person*
  • A commitment to continuing education
  • Avoiding all conduct or practice likely to discredit or do injury to the reputation of the home performance/retrofit industry

* The company will endeavour to train at least one lead installer per residential retrofit crew. If the only HPCN-qualified lead installer leaves the company, they will train a new employee within 60 days of the previous person leaving or membership may be paused.

  • We agree to abide by the HPSC's Code of Conduct for the duration of our participation in the Home Performance Contractor Network.
  • We assume these responsibilities freely and understand that they are part of our obligation to participate in the Home Performance Contractor Network.

We understand that failure to adhere to the Code of Conduct will result in a disciplinary process and potentially the loss of our status in the Home Performance Contractor Network.
