The success of organisations in a knowledge society will be based on their ability to capture and mobilize knowledge fluidly, internally and externally across all of its stakeholders.
Employees
The majority of workers today are "digital natives" who grew up with the internet and smartphones who are increasingly opting to work remotely and change jobs more frequently. Couple this with a more complex and constantly changing work environment, the need to quickly onboard new hires, to provide constant on-the-job training and re-skilling on-demand is greater than ever. Much of this will come from outside the organization, but it is equally important to capture process improvements and employee learning in a way that is fluid and easily accessible by all workers. By centralizing knowledge in a format that is easy to access, up-to-date, and relevant, onboarding new employees and contractors is faster and painless.
Customers
In a Knowledge Society customers conduct more research before purchasing products or services and increasingly prefer a "no-touch" experience throughout the buying process and when accessing support. This requires organizations to participate in the customer education process and elevate their brand by providing industry and product-related information in a consumer-centric format throughout the buying process.
Partners
The modern organization has become much more dependent on ever-changing partnerships to operate in a connected world. This requires deeper integration with partners in sharing knowledge both ways to ensure each partner has up-to-date, relevant information. This goes beyond "partner portals" to an integration within the operating systems of each partners core business.
Society
The public now expects businesses and organizations to proactively participate in improving society - from local initiatives to global issues, from sustainability to ethically sourced supplies. Providing up-to-date information and getting feedback and engagement on how an organization is participating in improving society will be critical to sustainability and growth.
