Bring knowledge to life

At Guides its our calling to Bring Knowledge to Life, cause unfortunately too often we see it doesn't. We have seen too many instances where precious information is lost, out of date, not trusted, or not reaching the people it should. We are frustrated with the hypocrisy of paywalls, data mining or advertisement models. We believe in an open, trusted, and equitable approach to knowledge mobilization with respect for the original thinkers and where everyone can contribute and share in the results. This is what will enable people to live better lives. And as a purpose-driven organization built on trust, we have certain immutable laws:

PURPOSE OVER PROFIT

  • No advertising on the platform
  • No paid promotion
  • Guides is run by stakeholders and can't be sold
  • Reporting based on impact not impressions

NETWORKS ARE BUILT ON TRUST

  • Protection for freedom for expression and human rights
  • Data & content belongs to users
  • All algorithms are public and transparent
  • No bots or unverified accounts
  • Full transparency on all operations

How it fits

As you'll discover things at Guides.co are done a little differently. For example there are no jobs, managers, offices, internal vs. external. We have embraced Teal organization principles where our evolving purpose defines everything we do. We operate in an open, transparent environment where we collectively own, share, and participate in

  1. the Purpose: ensuring our purpose evolves and remains true, we always strive to Make Knowledge Matter;
  2. the Capital: that all stakeholders participate fairly in the intellectual, social and financial value, both invested and received; and
  3. the Governance: that all stakeholders are powerful and trusted to make decision that make knowledge matter, everyday.

Our Flywheel

Everything we do at Guides has to support our Flywheel, it is what orchestrates, perpetuates and builds momentum towards our purpose. The Flywheel consist of three causally related components, each reinforcing and activating the next in a virtuous circle:

1. People. Knowledge should matter to People. They could be Visitors that are just browsing, or registered on the platform and identify as Guides creating new content and channels, or have formal roles in the company. People activate knowledge.

2. Knowledge. People create knowledge through capturing their information worth sharing in new Guides or commenting on existing ones. Knowledge kickstarts mobilisation

3. Mobilisation. Guides that are considered useful are worth building on and talking about. They trigger curation and sharing which primes existing and invites new people in. Mobilisation activates people.

That's also why all the roles fit in the 3 circles in Holaspirit (well almost... we're working on that!)
