Training & Administration Considerations

A website re-build doesn't conclude with the launch- the task of preparing, training, and supporting an organization's staff and administrators is crucial. This requires coordination between the agency and the organization, and should be planned after the re-build process begins (to know the full specifications of the site) but be resolved before the site launches.

Some organizations may have IT departments that can provide internal support and training. However, these IT departments still need input and direction from the agency on how to administer the website.

Important questions to answer for training and administration are:

  • Is the platform or content management system new to staff?
  • What is the permission or role system for the website?
  • How does the governance process for the website apply?
  • What custom functionality does the site have? How can administrators manage that?
  • Does the agency need to provide ongoing training, or just initial training? How many training sessions should be provided?
  • What collateral materials or guides can be provided for training?
  • What continuing role do the agency have (if any) in administering the website?

With the above answered, you can produce:

  • A training program.
  • A training schedule.
  • Training collateral and guides.
