Roadmap

What Exists Today

Beacon is live and in active use. Safety Net is partially shipped - the foundation is real, not a slide deck.

The app (production)

  • PWA at beacon.guides.co - link, QR, or install to home screen
  • Places with geofences - lake associations, organizations, neighborhoods
  • Alerts to contacts and place members with push notifications when online
  • Public Safety Net page in the app at /safety-net
  • My Connection dashboard - see digital (cloud/P2P) and radio status in one place
  • Admin tools - place admins can enable Safety Net and configure infrastructure settings

Resilience layers (shipped)

Layer Status What it does
Cloud alerts Live Create alert → notify followers and members globally
Offline cache Live Cached profile, contacts, alerts; queue when offline
WebRTC proximity Live Fan-out to nearby devices via peer-to-peer mesh
Meshtastic link Live Connect pocket LoRa radio from browser; concurrent cloud + LoRa send
Compact mesh format Live Small alert frames suitable for low-bandwidth radio
Lighthouse badge Live Visitors see when a place is on the Safety Net

What honest limitations look like today

We're transparent about the edges:

  • P2P mesh works best when peers are already connected or on the same local network
  • LoRa is optional - most members use the web app only
  • Lighthouse hardware (local web bridge + fixed node) is designed but not yet deployed in the field
  • Place-scoped encryption on public mesh channels is planned, not shipped
  • Cloud infrastructure currently runs on US-hosted services while we migrate toward Canadian hosting (see Canadian Infrastructure)

We share this because trust comes from accuracy, not hype.
