Expected Outcomes

Expected Outcomes from Sharing this Document with a Group and then Getting their Feedback.

  • All participants in whatever conversation is being undertaken need to be aware of the Expected Outcomes that the initiator of the discussion has in mind. The more specific one can be about the expected outcomes, the greater the possibility of gaining positive results from engaging others.
  • The outcomes might be those which are expected from a presentation at a meeting, or the results of a one- to two-day meeting, or the operation of a three-month facilitated Dialogue, or the operation of a four-month or longer organizational transformation initiative.
  • In each of these cases the initiator of the discussion needs to be clear as to what s/he expects the participants to do as a result of their interactions. For example, if you are reporting on a proposal to a team of colleagues, are you seeking just to offer them information or are you seeking their help? Do you expect the group to make some collaborative decisions and to commit some individual and/or group actions?

Note: Here again, as with the assumptions, the outcomes are presented as draft and participants are invited to use the Feedback Form to provide comments, questions and suggestions.
