Keep the peace. ENERGY STAR certified units run more quietly, so your room isn't just more comfortable, it's more peaceful, too.
Keep climate change in the house. Approximately 70% of U.S. electricity is generated by burning coal and natural gas, which releases greenhouse gases into the atmosphere and contributes to climate change. ENERGY STAR certified room air conditioners use less energy and help us reduce our impact on the environment.
Right size and properly install for comfort and savings. With room air conditioners, size matters. A unit that is too large for the space to be cooled will remove heat, but only remove some of the humidity, which will leave the space feeling cold and clammy. A properly sized unit may take slightly longer to cool the space, but it will maintain a more comfortable temperature and humidity level - and use a lot less energy. Additionally, ENERGY STAR certified room air conditioners are required to include materials that minimize air leaks. When installing a new unit, make sure to follow the manufacturer's installation instructions to properly air seal around the unit.
