In the event of a power outage...

• Check-in on Beacon (Off-Grid Comms): If power or cellular towers remain down for more than 12 hours, cell phones will fail. Switch on your off-grid safety radio or connect your phone to your Meshtastic mesh node. Monitor the designated emergency channel. If you require critical medical or life-safety assistance and have no signal, go to the nearest Community Beacon Lighthouse to broadcast an emergency beacon.
• Road Clearance Staging (Crew Mobilization): Once the storm passes safely, the designated Volunteer Road Clearing Crew will automatically gather at the main public landing. Armed with the community registry of heavy equipment, winches, and high-capacity chainsaws, this team will systematically clear Community Road and the South Shore road, and if necessary, logging trail, to ensure emergency vehicles can access the basin.
• Vulnerable Resident Check: If power is out for more than 12 hours, a formal, synchronized check-in is initiated. Neighbors equipped with boats or ATVs will physically visit all identified vulnerable, elderly, or isolated residents within the first 6 hours of a major storm event to verify health and safety.
• Water Preservation: If power goes out, your water pump will stop working. Switch your hot water tank breaker OFF immediately to prevent the heating elements from burning out if the tank drains. Minimize toilet flushing.
• Food & Refrigeration: Keep refrigerator and freezer doors tightly closed. A sealed freezer will keep food frozen for roughly 24 to 48 hours.
• Generator Safety: NEVER run a portable generator inside a cottage, porch, or garage. Place generators downwind, at least 20 feet away from any structure windows or doors to prevent fatal carbon monoxide poisoning.
