Flashover is a situation in which a fire develops rapidly, and is extremely important for fire fighters to recognize and understand. The actual HRR values will depend on many factors such as room size, ambient conditions, lining materials, fuel types, geometry and loading, and ventilation. Due to its importance, the possible transition processes that characterize flashover, and factors that affect these, are discussed in a separate section later in the curriculum.
