White Trillium
Ontario's official flower has a secret.
That beautiful white trillium beside the trail...
May have been waiting 10 years to bloom.
For most of its life, the plant quietly gathers energy underground, producing only a few leaves each spring. Only after years of growing does it finally produce the flower that lasts for just a few weeks before disappearing again.
It's a reminder that some of nature's greatest achievements take time.
Trillium seeds are carried by ants!
Each seed has a tiny, nutrient-rich attachment that ants love to eat. They carry the seed back to their nest, enjoy the snack, then discard the seed somewhere new-helping trilliums spread through the forest one tiny journey at a time.
Next time you're at the lake...
When you find a trillium, don't rush past it.
You're looking at a flower that may have spent a decade preparing for this one brief moment.
It makes those few weeks of bloom feel a little more special.
