What is "Full Spectrum"?

"Full spectrum" refers to a type of cannabis extract or product that contains a wide range of cannabinoids, including not just CBD (cannabidiol) and THC (delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol), but also other minor cannabinoids such as CBG (cannabigerol), CBC (cannabichromene), and CBN (cannabinol), among others. In addition to cannabinoids, full spectrum products may also contain various terpenes, flavonoids, and other beneficial plant compounds.

The term "full spectrum" is used to highlight that the extract or product contains a comprehensive profile of the plant's natural compounds, aiming to mimic the synergistic effects of the whole cannabis plant. This means that the various cannabinoids and other compounds work together in what is known as the entourage effect, potentially enhancing each other's therapeutic properties and overall effectiveness.

Full spectrum extracts are typically derived from whole-plant extraction methods, such as using the flowers and leaves of the cannabis plant, rather than isolating individual compounds. While full spectrum products contain THC, the levels are generally within legal limits (below 0.3% in the United States) to ensure compliance with regulations.

Compared to products that isolate specific cannabinoids, full spectrum cannabis products are believed by some to offer a more comprehensive and balanced range of therapeutic effects due to the presence of multiple cannabinoids and other plant compounds. However, individual responses may vary, and some individuals may prefer or require products with isolated cannabinoids for specific purposes or to avoid any potential psychoactive effects of THC.
