Handling The Holidays

One of the challenges with a classroom-based garden is what to do about garden maintenance over the holidays. The good news is that plants, like students are resilient and, if you can identify and plan for what will need to be done over the holidays, these times can be easily managed.

If you're using the Tower Garden System, holidays are a breeze! Simply set your timers and make sure your reservoirs are filled with water. Let the Tower Garden system do the rest of the work for you.

If you've decided to grow in soil-based growing environments, holidays simply require a bit more creative planning.

One way to prepare for the holidays is to send plants home with students! Small containers and pots can go home easily with children or faculty--plus, plants can make GREAT holiday gifts!

Another option: invest in a self-watering or automatic watering / feeding system. There are a number of affordable options on the market and depending on your classroom schedule, they might be worth the investment. Always be sure to check with your administration when installing automatic watering systems, as they may have objections.
