Delegate, Eliminate, And Automate

Out of all of the activities that you have to do, look at the ones which are not your high leverage ones.

Of those items, decide which can be delegated to someone else.

See whether or not you can eliminate something, and in the end, see whether certain activities can be automated.

An example:
I used to spend every day at least 2 hours preparing food.
Then I calculated, that I can save those 2 hours every day if I bought food in a restaurant and had it delivered instead of prepping it myself.
Having freed up 2 hours, I can now decide on which high leverage activities I can invest it in.

Now, ordering out won't work for everyone, but take Cvijetic's advice and try to find non-high leverage activities in your day that you might be able to eliminate, delegate or automate.

Some examples that I came up with in my life:

  • Using the dishwasher instead of hand washing my dishes. There are only two of us in my house, so it usually takes us 5 or 6 days to fill up the dishwasher, but I'd estimate that not hand washing all our dishes has saved me at least an hour per week.
  • Hire a housecleaner, a dog walker, a snow shoveler if you can. Try to eliminate the simple tasks that can easily be "outsourced" at a reasonable price. (Hire your neighbour's kids, they'll appreciate the spending money and you'll appreciate the extra time.)
  • Only check email twice a day, and designate specific times for social media.
  • Schedule meetings with yourself. Book time in your calendar where you concentrate on high leverage activities without distraction.
  • Others???
