1. What is the Home Performance Contractor Network?
The Home Performance Contractor Network (HPCN) is an upskilling initiative for home performance professionals in British Columbia. Contractors complete specified business accreditation and training qualifications to join a database of qualified professionals. Members are advertised in a public search tool and are subject to ongoing review and quality assurance checks. The HPCN was developed for industry, by industry, and is managed by the Home Performance Stakeholder Council.
The HPCN opened to HVAC, insulation, and window and door installers in 2021, recently expanded to include Energy Advisors and General Retrofit contractors, and now Solar & Battery contractors.
2. Why is BC Hydro introducing the requirement to join the Home Performance Contractor Network and complete self-generation and rebate program training?
In the past year, over 300 companies have installed solar or battery energy storage systems and helped customers apply for self-generation and rebates. This new requirement ensures that all contractors understand the program, deliver quality installations, and properly support their customers through the self-generation and rebate application process.

No, there is no cost for joining the HPCN. Some sectors require specific training that may have an associated cost to it, but the Solar & Battery sector currently does not.
