Economics

Economic barriers are becoming an all too common cause of non-adherence. This is also a common reason that more and more Americans are seeking alternative or integrative options. Of all the reasons for non-adherence, finances can be one of the most difficult to address due to their sensitive nature. However, it's critical to address the issue of finances to ensure patients receive the best results possible.

How to Address:

  • As a standard element of care, provide patients with a daily and monthly cost

breakdown of your plan. It's a soft way to address the patient's question, "can I afford this?"

  • Offer samples or trials to patients to avoid "sticker shock."
  • If medications or supplements are being recommended, have HSA/FSA forms readily available. Also be prepared to address other opportunities for reimbursement.
