The frequency of action required by the patient can be a deterring factor. In the case of medication or supplement usage, a 3x/day option is likely to interfere more with their schedule than a 2x/day administration. In the case of exercise, 4 days a week may be too much to start with and as a result, the patient drops the plan altogether. Also, consider the dosage - some patients can handle a routine of multiple medications or supplements without a problem, whereas others may look loathingly upon swallowing 6-10 capsules each morning. Dosage can also be thought of in terms of the "amount" for other recommendations as well, such as the duration of exercise sessions.
