Patients may not adhere to a plan if they experience unpleasant side effects. Note that side effects are not limited to medication or supplements. There are side effects that coincide with every change a patient makes to their routine, ranging from the emotional discomfort that comes naturally with change, to experiencing new side effects such as mood changes during smoking cessation, digestive imbalances with a new clinical nutrition plan, or even changes to their daily schedule that interfere with their home or social life.
