Evaluating Adherence (cont)

4. SETTING STANDARD FOR FEEDBACK

If you are setting the expectation that a patient will deliver data to you, then they are also expecting to hear about the results. If it is your plan to receive the data, but communicate results and next steps during their next in-person exam, be sure to communicate that in advance. If your feedback will be ongoing, make sure there is a clear understanding between you and your patient on the type of feedback they will receive - is it as simple as a "you're on the right track" or will you be providing more analysis and recommended changes along the way?

5. ALIGNMENT WITH YOUR PRACTICE MODEL

To provide effective evaluation, you also have to be realistic on how it fits into your practice model. Will you have the time to provide a thorough 1:1 evaluation in the areas of adherence for each patient and is that reflected in your appointment times/scheduling? What will you need to sacrifice in order to meet your patient's expectations? Is your front-office prepared technologically and in staffing to accommodate your desired evaluation strategy?
