5.2.3 Describe window, skylight and door installation methods, including the preparation of rough openings, careful detailing, flashing and air sealing
Foam/tape method
Filling the void between the window frame and the rough stud
Polyurethane spray foam serves as the air barrier
Use low expansion spray foam to avoid excessive pressure on the frame
If spray foam is cut and trimmed, additional sealant like tape will be required to ensure a sealed barrier is installed
Add tape to the exterior of the foam to seal the sheathing to the window.
Plywood wrap method
Used for metal and PVC windows
Seal wood panel sheathing liner at interior edge to the wall with polyethylene or drywall
often uses gaskets and sealants for connections
Drywall method
Commonly used with wood windows
Opening is sealed with drywall caulked to the window frame
