6.2.2 Describe heat loss/gain principles to determine design heating and cooling loads

  • Heat loss is based on the effective insulation value of all exposed surfaces for that climate zone as well as accounting for air leakage
  • Heat gains include external (solar) and internal (occupants, electrical loads etc)
  • Design heat loss is the energy required to maintain the design temperature in winter at the design outside temperature based on the climate zone.
  • Design cooling load is the energy required to maintain the design temperature in summer at the design outside temperature based on the climate zone.
