6.7.8 Describe the general principles of wind and micro-hydro energy

• Wind:
  • up to 45% efficiency in practice.
  • Installed in Class 3 to 7 (300 to 2000 W/m² at 50m height) areas
  • surveyed for wind potential, they have the capacity to generate continuously but are subject to normal changes in weather.

• Micro-hydro:
  • efficiencies are high, 50-85%.
  • If installed in a river or stream that does not dry up seasonally, the potential for continuous reliable power is good.
  • without dam or reservoir, 5 to 100 kW of electricity is generated using the natural flow of water.
