It
goes without saying - you need a personal profile picture, and you
need it to look professional. Your LinkedIn picture is more
significant than you might imagine.

LinkedIn is a business community, not somewhere to showcase your
beach-tanned body to friends and family. Your picture needs to
represent your professional aspirations and be appropriate for the
industry you are in. Here are a few basic rules:
• no party or beach pictures (unless that's your job)
• don't make your photo too small or low in quality so it
looks pixelated or grainy
• don't use pictures of yourself within a group
• don't go for poorly lit black and white pictures
• hire a professional photographer; a selfie (especially one
done in a mirror showing your hand holding the camera) is a
no-go
All that said, whatever the picture is, it is still better
than no picture.
