Compression wraps offer gentle support and aid in reducing swelling. Elastic bandages are commonly employed to apply pressure and compress the injured tissue. When applying a compression bandage, start several inches below the injury site and wrap it snugly against the skin.
Maintain a moderate level of tension while wrapping, ensuring a secure fit without constricting circulation (indicated by tingling or numbness, and discoloration of the soft tissue). Wrapping the bandage in a figure-eight or spiral pattern, depending on the location, should conclude a few inches above the injury, providing the necessary compression.
