OK, I Know About Domains - But How Do They Apply to Me?
Everyone has heard of domain names - particularly .COM. You've likely seen .ORG, .NET and .CA in your online travels. But what do they mean?
A domain name is used to establish the identity of a company, brand or person in a memorable way. They take the place of IP (Internet Protocol) addresses, which generally consist of a string of numbers. Of course, simply using a string of random numbers does not help with your digital footprint (unless you are particularly adept at memorizing numbers, but who is?). Hence, domain names came along to save the day and make it far easier for users to find you and your business online.
Domain names can be broken down into several levels. For our purposes, we're going to focus on the first level and its subcategories. We can see you starting to yawn from here, but bear with us - we promise that we won't make this dry and incredibly boring to read.
