Elisabeth is an experienced leader in policy development and community resiliency. Her dedication to advancing low-carbon construction practices has been the driving force behind the creation of Carbon Wise. Carbon Wise is a consulting firm that aims to serve as a bridge between the realities of on-the-ground construction in the industry and the imperative actions needed to meet our climate targets. As industry-leading experts, the Carbon Wise team offers a wide range of services, including energy audits for existing homes, Step Code and Net-Zero compliance for new homes, Life Cycle Assessments, energy cost reduction strategies, blower door airtightness testing, and comprehensive consulting services.

As an active member of the industry, Elisabeth volunteers with the Carbon Leadership Forum - BC Hub and serves on the educational committee of the Homebuilders Association of Vancouver (HAVAN) advocating for higher standards and better education for its members.

Ben grew up in a small coastal town outside of Melbourne, Australia. Ben started as a carpenter's apprentice at the age of 17. Over the past 20 years he has gained experience in all aspects of carpentry, from framing spec homes to building and renovating custom projects. In 2008 he moved to Whistler for a season and never left. He moved to the Kootenays in 2022 and started his own business, Wirewood Construction. Greg Bloom

Home Comfort Advisor, Greenfoot Energy Solutions




Greg started his career with building and finishing new residential single and multi-family homes, as well as working in commercial construction, including concrete and architectural formwork.

He followed that with a time of working in big box retail, including as a national sales, product and leadership trainer that boosted his drive for learning. This led to a career in renovation/retrofit project management that fed his continuing pursuit in lifelong learning focusing on building envelopes, and mechanical systems as they related to industry best practices and energy efficiency.

He recently had the pleasure of working alongside the amazing team at the HPSC that brought him to his current role as the BC Sales Manager for Greenfoot Energy Solutions.

The HPSC asked attendees to reflect on the morning's panel by answering some prompts at their tables including

  1. How do you currently engage in a house-as-a-system approach to retrofits? Specifically, how are you working across/with multiple sectors?
  2. What challenges do you foresee with expanding your business into multiple sectors or working with other businesses across sectors? What are the opportunities?
  3. What ideas have you gleaned from today's panel that you might want to implement into your own business?

The HPSC collected the written responses and will be using them to help inform future communication, education, and marketing initiatives related to home performance.

Brett Auger


Senior Home Energy Rating System Lead, Ministry of Energy, Mines and Low Carbon Innovation

Brett Auger is the Province's Senior Home Energy Rating System Lead. He is responsible for the development and implementation of the BC Home Energy Planner which is set to begin piloting in April 2024. His experience creating solutions for government and industry over the last 10 years has given him the skills and confidence to ensure the BC Home Energy Planner will be a success. Brett is also a volunteer firefighter in Telkwa BC, where he lives with his girlfriend and small husky.

Arman Mottaghi

CEO, Properate

Arman Mottaghi is the CEO of Properate, a social-purpose firm on a mission to facilitate high-performance low-rise residential (Part 9) construction and renovation. Properate's technologies make home energy assessment and upgrade planning more accessible.

Arman is a Clean50 Emerging Leader of 2023 and was named the 2021 Emerging Green Leader of Canada by Canada Green Building Council. As a former Board Director of the BC Sustainable Energy Association (BCSEA) Arman brings a broad view of the high-perfomrance building opportunities to the table.

Patricia Bell (facilitator)

Director, Relationships and Reconciliation, Community Energy Association

Pat is a community planner, with over twenty years experience in regional, urban and environmental planning, with an emphasis on policy support for environmental protection and GHG emission reductions. As a community planner, she has supported numerous regional and municipal plans, policies and actions intended to protect air quality, reduce flooding, conserve water, incorporate natural infrastructure systems in neighbourhood planning, manage natural hazards, create a sustainability framework for new neighbourhood planning, support sustainable utilities and infrastructure, and promote community health and safety. Since joining the Community Energy Association in 2008, Pat has prepared and delivered guides, workshops and policy recommendations on energy efficient buildings, community energy and emissions planning and implementation, district energy systems, Canadian provincial/territorial climate and energy policy, and electric vehicle implementation.

Curtis Thomas

Owner/Operator, Warrior Plumbing

Curtis Thomas owns and operates Warrior Plumbing, an award-winning North Vancouver plumbing and gas fitting business. He is also a co-owner of Kwasen Enterprises, an Indigenous advisory company, and he is a member and Elected Councillor of the Tsleil-Waututh in North Vancouver.

Curtis has 15+ years of experience working in local Indigenous communities, providing full service turnkey mechanical contracting services to various stakeholders while training and mentoring Indigenous people in the trades.

He is passionate about involving Indigenous people in the resurgence of their economies, providing career opportunities through his business. Curtis is heavily involved in his community. He is Chair of the MST Steering Committee, sits on the Board of Directors for the Zero Emissions Innovation Centre, and holds seats on the TWN Climate Action and Housing Committees.

Danny Tourville

Owner, Lalem Building Inspection & Consulting

Danny Tourville is a member of Moose Cree First Nation, and has been a tireless advocate for improving construction standards on First Nations housing projects. A Red Seal Carpenter by trade, he previously used his skills on conducting and executing new housing projects and renovations on reserve, focusing on energy efficiency. Most recently, he worked in management in Housing and Infrastructure for Tzeachten First Nation in Chilliwack. Having both technical and administrative knowledge, Danny has a full view on what the next best steps are to continue improving both new builds and retrofits on reserve.

Darell Gaddie


Community Support Specialist, Fraser Basin Council

Darell Gaddie MBA is a Cree/Saulteaux from the Cowessess First Nation Treaty 4 area in Saskatchewan. Darell has lived in BC for more than 35 years working with both indigenous and non-indigenous communities in educational and child and family services.

Darell has been working for the Fraser Basin Council Society since October 2022; first in the Energy Peers in Indigenous Communities program which met with success and is now fully enrolled. Darell was moved to the First Nations Energy Efficiency Mentorship Program in July 2023. He has been the Program Lead for 10 months.

In both positions, Darell's work was to involve First Nations communities in creating capacity to reduce dependence on carbon-based energy. To date the Energy Efficiency Mentorship program has enrolled 8 indigenous communities in "Energy Efficiency 101", a BCIT-based series of in-community workshops facilitated by indigenous energy Mentors. The program is designed to create capacity around energy-efficiency alternatives for the home. The EEMP goal is to create capacity in 10 indigenous communities per year that stays in the community through educating members around energy efficiency alternatives.

Tailgate Toolkit Coordinator, Vancouver/Lower Mainland, Vancouver Island Construction Association (VICA)

Rose has been a community support worker for the last 10 years in different aspects from Street Outreach and monitoring a Safe Injection Site to HIV and Hep C outreach and care. She took a break for about 10 years and learned how to build cabinets and then started with the Tailgate Toolkit in October 2023. All the knowledge she possesses is learnt by working beside the people, and for the people! She loves being part of a community program that promotes self care and being there for the ones that we love during this crisis.
